Not forum protocol, it’s my protocol.
Not sure if you saw post 23564
above which provided detailed answers to your earlier questions sent to me via Private Message with parts of the answers being contained in Spoiler Tags to reduce the size of the post... this is the reason I prefer to reply to questions on the public threads so others get the opportunity to weigh in who may have additional information to offer. I also have no intentions of catering to one guy in this thread behind-the-scenes who would consider buying the SEK-4500. And one more thing, AVS Forum does not provide a means to simply add pictures to Private Messages like they do on the open threads.
What I have found of late is guys join AVS Forum, ask questions, and leave and don’t stick around and ‘give back’ to the community and it’s getting kind of old. A big part of that is because every possible question that could have been asked about the SEK-3500 has been asked and answered multiple times. Another reason is that newcomers to this thread are what might commonly be referred to as “Late To the Party
” since the 2015 SEK-4500 Evolution Kit was released well over 3 years ago.
Making this even more complicated is for guys who are trying to understand why the SEK-4500 would also require the SEK-3500 to ‘work properly’ and for many that might mean some extensive reading of articles I have provided in the first post on the SEK-4500 thread
As for the SEK-4500, everything I know is posted in the SEK-4500 thread...

I created that thread at the request of a couple of guys who wanted to avoid the SEK-3500 thread becoming the SEK-4500 thread — and I don’t blame them — and for interested parties to scaddaddle over there.
Maybe since the SEK-4500 hasn’t hit the US market yet you might want to cool the jets and not be the first in the neighbourhood to want to own what many of us (including owners worldwide who have returned theirs) have coined a ‘POS’..... or worse. Only 4 members of AVS Forum have purchased an SEK-4500 and we thank them for their input. Two of those guys returned theirs after learning it was really no more than a “media player”.
Answers to Your Latest Round of Questions
Is there any chance that the SEK-4500 for US release will be a complete update, not requiring a SEK-3500 to add the HDR for example?
Your not the first member hoping for a miracle.
Not likely since Samsung’s site that advertises the SEK-4500 says you hook it up with a cable where one end is an HDMI... just like the European and Australian one. Here is a link to Samsung’s site where they have posted a spec sheet:
Although some of us have known this for awhile now based on feedback on the European Sites, we finally have something in writing from Samsung USA that puts that matter to rest once and for all where in the small print it says: Compatible with standard Display-Port-to-HDMI type cable
This is NOT how previous generations of the Evolution Kits worked.
By the way this is all contained in the first post on the SEK-4500 thread
When I talked to Samsung support, they implied I would get all the upgrades in the SEK-4500.
Well you can believe them or you can believe the many owners who have purchased one of these internationally. Not true. Only if you hook it up to a 2015 SEK-3500 or JS
series that have HDMI 2.0a
and HDCP 2.2. If it were so simple we could have just plugged our 4K Blu-ray players nto our existing HU series OCB or TVs HDMI ports that were plain HDMI 2.0 (not HDMI 2.0a
needed for HDR) nor were they HDCP 2.2 compliant required for copy protected 4K content without it being dumbed down to HD which has been discussed alot on the aforementioned SEK-4500 thread as recently as a day or two ago.
Here is a recent addition to the first post on the SEK-4500 thread
who was trying to obtain the remote codes from Logitech who didn’t understand the SEK-4500 doesn’t share the same codes as the 2015 SEK-3500 or JS
series that might help some guys understand...
sek 4500 is more like a media player certainly not a evolutionary kit. (which is annoying).. no where near a upgrade kit as hardware is dependant on our older SEK model we connect it too. (ie my sek2500 is not hdmi 2.0a so no HDR for me.) .
It doesn't replace the old SEK and its just an addition, so for me I just get tizen 4.0 and new software features.
The manual states do not use ARC as this device does not support it. hence we do not use HDMI 4. The device itself is more like a overlay on top of our old one connect box. you can have sources on the sek 2500 and sek 4500 up at the same time (using 2 remotes).
I personally have a F9000 with sek 2500 that works great with harmony. My new sek 4500 is connected to the NON arc port on the sek 2500 as it has to connect to your existing evo kit (just like a bluray player etc would).
I'm also hanging out to get this added so I can control everything via one remote.
Here is a first hand report from a user experiencing the fallouts of hooking up an SEK-4500 to a pre-2015 TV without an SEK-3500...
This would be the result of the F9000 not having HDMI ports supporting HDCP 2.2 which is required to watch 4K copy protected content. More on that in the SEK-4500 thread where I provided an experiment complete with pictures in post 129
Here is what happens when the STB is plugged into an HDMI input that supports HDCP 2.2
when playing 4K protected content (3840 x 2160)...
And here is what it looks like if the HDMI input doesn’t support HDCP 2.2
(1920 x 1080)...
Unfortunately many of the devices today (e.g. UHD Players; Apple TV 4k; Chromecast Ultra; 4K Set Top Boxes) upscale HD content to 4K so the banner might display 3840 x 2160 even when a device is only sending HD. See what I mean...

Is there anyone reporting they have bought one in the US?
Your question is a little vague since I told you yesterday in my PM to you to keep your eye on the SEK-4500 thread to see when they hit the streets in the USA...

So I have done one better than that. I have used your post to help you and others since it is about to hit the streets in the USA and if you keep your eye on the SEK-4500 thread I am sure someone will be posting the info over there
but after reading my reply I think you will find you are much better off buying the SEK-3500...
...so you must mean the SEK-3500 and somehow missed the link I provided in my post above who is selling new sealed units for $350 USD eBay. As a matter of fact I bought one of mine from him when he was selling them for a lot less.
Would there be a difference in systems offered in Canada and the US?
Again, your question is vague. If we are talking about the SEK-3500 they are one and the same. They are both Model Code SEK-3500U/ZA.
If you are asking about the SEK-4500 then probably since it is being advertised as the SEK-4500/ZA. But no way to know for certain since they are not advertising it on their site in Canada but more than likely since Samsung has a habit of suffixing products with ‘/ZA’ in the past such as the SEK-3500 made for North America.

My fingers are getting tired from typing the same stuff over and over especially if guys aren’t going to bother reading the SEK-4500 thread or catching up a wee bit in this thread starting at post 23514
when the first owner of an SEK-4500 started posting pictures on this thread. Case in point, somebody who shall remain nameless just posted the following on the SEK-4500 thread...

Oops, I forgot when you quote somebody, their Avatar name gets posted.
If guys were reading that thread (that only contains 141 posts) they would see that pictures were posted in post 1
and post 54
. Also it wouldn’t have been necessary for
to post above this post how to edit your User Profiles. That was covered in the SEK-4500 thread at least twice as early as post 9
Request to Members
: Considering the number of different TV models between 2012 - 2015 that the SEK-4500 is compatible with, to avoid any confusion could you please do us all a favour and update your profile and provide us with the country you live in which will then appear below your Avatar on all your posts.

Not only that an Evolution Kit developed for one market may not work in a different country. For example, the boxes being rolled out in Norway and other parts of Europe are called the SEK-4500/XC
whereas the ones in Australia and New Zealand are called the SEK-4500/XY
Something else many members also do is update their profiles to include a Signature
listing the TV and other equipment they own which will appear at the bottom of each of their posts which can be helpful when trying to obtain help because we have learned that the SEK-4500 may exhibit "false positves" for example when plugged into certain TVs, OCBs, or SEKs.
To make that easy on you click the following link...
User CP > Settings & Options > Edit Signature
We found this information especially helpful in the SEK-3500 thread as it too was marketed worldwide and could be installed on a number of different models. The SEK-4500, even more models!
