I don't know about DTS:X but all 3 apps are capable of outputting Atmos on OTHER Devices. It doesn't matter if they do or don't on the Samsung TV because you can't get anything higher than 5.1 on ARC anyways. So yeah, you need to invest into a streamer that does audio decoding like Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV etc.

Quick update on my exchange situation. I received the new 78" tv, and my goodness this new one is almost perfect! No backlight/flashlighting issues, color is way richer and more vivid than on my last set, even though both tv's were updated to latest firmware! And also new tv is way sharper than last one. Even with sharpness at 0 is...well pretty sharp lol.

Only have a lil bit of DSE, which is visible on hockey games so i can't complain too much! Very happy overall.

Any one have any nits numbers for the KS9800?

IIRC I thought I had seen a link where someone has posted some test data?
I "stumbled" into Best Buy/Magnolia to buy a 4K disc and "somehow" one of the salesmen I know there convinced me to buy their store display Z9D
The price was ridiculous that they let me have it for
And to think I told myself I was going to stop making these impulsive purchases...no matter how good the deal was..

Oh well

Got it mounted yesterday( swapped out KS9800)...and watched some of Black Panther last night
It seems brighter than the KS9800....though I thought I had seen test data that showed the KS9800 to be brighter?
Btw..I am very impressed with the Z9D's lack of blooming

Simply posted to make KS9800 owners aware. Just wondering what real changes any owners have noticed.

Usually 1400-1500 nits but I've seen some reports as low as 1250 so it's probably a matter of slight panel variance too. (Z9D usually around 1600-1800). Sony's usually have higher full screen brightness too.

Downloaded the new 1231.1, extracted with one hiccup, and installed without issue.
Will scan tonight to see if any changes.
I assume with such a small increment in the FW version, this is NOT the HDR10 + we were hoping for.
Korean site has a new Korean E-Manual 2018 as well, but when you request the English version, you get shown the E-Manual from 2016.

Canadian download website:

Addendum:
No real changes from the overall scans other than a tweak here and there.

USB (Apps) HDR settings from the Factory Original revert: 2 Point: 6 / 2 / 9 : -3 / 0 / 1
CMS: Red: 27 / 2 / 0 Green: 4 / 32 / 5 Blue: 5 / 1 / 29 Yellow: 34 / 26 / 0 Cyan: 10 / 30 / 22 Magenta: 23 / 0 / 17

Due to the release notes of the fw (e.g. Point Nr. 4) and to discussions in the european forums, this should be the update, that enables HLG HDR over HDMI. For me, this would be a huge step forward. I actually can`t try, because the update is not yet available in germany.

Congratulations, the Sony Z9D is a wonderful set too. I have both, hard to decide which to watch.

With my limited viewing I am giving my nod to the Sony...and I actually paid a few hundred less for it than what I thought was a firesale deal on the KS9800

Guess that just shows how prices have dropped

In any case..I am still very impressed with the Z9D's lack of blooming

On the KS9800 a dark scene with small bright objects or words created some obvious blooming

And then after you see it ..you know how it goes...you look for it every time you watch the set...

Please ignore the release notes. They are NOT release notes, as we have repeated over and over. That is the exact same text that Samsung includes with every single firmware upgrade of every TV they create, and it was a mistake to post it here again. Ignore it!

The Canadian site is currently indicating the latest firmware is version 1153.1. I wonder what is going on?

Question for you guys...
I can't remember but has the Game mode been fixed with auto-swtiching between SDR and HDR? I thought it was a while back but don't remember for sure. Thanks.

Warm 2 Movie - and, I don't game.

SmartLED on Low during calibration.

Standard is too funky, and has limited calibrating capabilities.

I can't remember but has the Game mode been fixed with auto-swtiching between SDR and HDR? I thought it was a while back but don't remember for sure. Thanks.

I believe it was fixed with firmware 1230.

Mine is set to Warm2.
@kbyakko where have you been man? I am still using your HDR+ settings for color space. Wish you would post more stuff, any new updated settings you calibrated recently? Thanks!

I've been in lurking mode . I have been pondering some refinements though. If they work out, I'll go into un-lurking mode and put them up here .

Re last FW update. I have now found some of my web browser websites are not bringing up some video materials anymore.
I did a SmartHUB reset, which helped a tiny bit, but some windows come up blank, grey, black, printed info but no image ? Checked same websites with my computer, no issues.

Should you go by CRs TV Optimizer Listings?

PICTURE SETTINGS
Picture Mode: Movie
Contrast: 95
Brightness: 47
Gamma: -1
Color: 46
Tint: G49R51
Sharpness: 0
Color Tone: Warm2
Backlight: 16
Auto Motion Plus: Custom (Blur Reduction: 0, Judder Reduction: 0, LED Clear Motion: On)
Smart LED: High
Film Mode: Auto2
HDMI Black Level: Auto
Color Space: Auto
All other settings should be set to "off" or zero "0". Any individual R,G, or B color subcontrols, if present, should remain at their default settings. On some TVs, the Contrast control is called Picture. Brightness may be called Black Level. Color may be called Saturation. Tint may be called Hue.

To start, Brightness at 47 will nullify the SmartLED, which on High, is wrong except for HDR. (Maximum Brightness 45)
Color at 46, and Tint at G49R51, is correcting some kind of issue- rarely does this need changing from the Defaults. Calibration straightens out any issues.
Backlight at 16 would need a person to wear sunglasses - Default was 7, and I've since turned down to 6, it's that bright!
Auto Motion, person's personal preference, but I leave Off. Same with Film Mode. HDMI Black Level: Low Color Space Auto if not calibrated, On for calibrated.
They were suppose to have calibrated the set, so should be On.
