Yes, I just saw this. I'm glad I bought a ton during the $15 sale.

I am not sure why they did this, but don't know about if they have a new product coming out or there was a conflict with channel partners. I would not be surprised if others came out with similar devices given the amount of 3rd party integration that was shown off at CES.

It's too bad because the DAC in the Chromecast Audio is really good. This function is being embedded in all sorts of speakers and devices, so I don't worry about support going away. But I wonder if they are moving certain product areas to partners instead of making them themselves.

thanks,
mike

The last thing I want is to buy 6 Google Home Minis to connect to a multi-channel amplifier. What a waste.

The solution would be to buy a Chromecast video puck and then purchase an HDMI audio extractor. Plug the Chromecast video into the input on the audio extractor and connect an RCA cable on the other side of the extractor. You would be out $60 instead of $35. Google adding audio streaming to the Chromecast video was kind of a tell.

That sucks! I was just starting to research whole home audio solutions for a new house I'm having built and thinking of using one of these as one of my sources to go along with the monoprice 6 zone package.

Just something to think about for not just you but anyone who does want to use Chromecast for streaming audio: Even though the Chromecast Audio has been discontinued, the regular Chromecast now streams audio and can be placed into groups and you can cast to it; Google released the update in Oct or Nov of 2018. You can use the Chromecast in a multi-zone audio setup when you combine it with a HDMI audio extractor. Monoprice sells HDMI audio extractors.

Looks like it's back in stock on the Google store. Go get them while you can if you want to build a "modern" WHA system!

Thanks
Mike
