Disney in Japan is throwing their hat into the HDR10+ arena. Curious to see if the rest of world (Disney) will too.

Edit: it appears these disc's were actually released last year and already had hdr10+ on them but nobody knew until now.

It's possible. The so called war, has always been between the display manufacturers and not content providers. Dolby, Samsung, and Panasonic knew that both formats could or would and can coexist.

A case has to be made to the content providers, to support both.

Amazon just dropped Informer in 4K HDR. Looks decent but dont expect another Jack Ryan PQ wise. A lot of noise and grain in places. Still worth a look for sure.
PS, do not go by the trailer on the instawatcher. It seems to be another series or a movie called Informer with the main lead in Altered Carbon.

Watched the first episode of season 2 of Friends From College. I remembered being pretty disappointed in the HDR last year aside from a few scenes throughout the season. The new episode, I think was better than what I remembered. Highlights definitely stood out in several scenes, and black levels were solid throughout, although there were only a few rare times where shadows felt slightly deeper and more detailed than what good SDR can do. Color was almost.. oversaturated perhaps? Like it was making use of the color gamut, but colors didn't look right to me, so I'd dock it some points for that. I remember Inception having a similar issue. Detail wise, the show didn't look too sharp to me, almost like 2.5K or something.

Overall, while there is some benefit over SDR noticeable, particularly in highlights, I think it could still look better. Based on my scoring system, where 70 is the average HDR I've scored, I give Friends From College's HDR a 65. Based on the same scoring system, reference quality SDR would currently get a score of 50.

Received both my IMAX Enhanced BDs. Journey to the South Pacific was the most enjoyable. Beautiful Planet OK if you're into the Space Station. Both very excellent as far as video quality. Viewing the Trailer after the Journey to the South Pacific, really shows how big a difference there is between the actual film, and the lower quality trailer. I would not recommend purchasing, but instead rent, since I only see these 2 videos as being watched only once.
My system does not do DTS-X, nor HDR10+, but I was till amazed how good they were.

PS. These films may spoil you as to the quality, other 4K UHDs don't seem to be up to. (Maybe because most of the videos are `Natural' ) If you want a new reference BD to show off your set, then look at purchasing.

The HDR and sound on Hell Fest is well done....especially for a lower budget film. It's a decent slasher flick if you're into those.

There’s a good amount of neon lights and highlights with solid blacks. Also nice to see an aspect ratio that fills the screen. movie itself was meh - wife and I watched it last night and only the full screen and pq were memorable. Watched Halloween tonight and I felt the pq was notably worse than Hell fest but the movie to me was far more entertaining....YMMV.

I don’t think anyone outside Amazon knows that. Eventually it will be there, but the “when” is still a mystery.

Hellfest = HDR fest!
This movie has crazy lighting and colors and great HDR; you could even call it Neon Demon! Get it?! 😄
Amazing audio as well and enjoyed the movie too. Kinda goes back to the 90s slasher style a bit... which is really missing from today's horror scene. Recommended.

I watched it tonight as well. To me it had a Pulp Fiction type feel to it. To me there wasn't much benefit from HDR though.

Watched First Man, iTunes UHD/DV. Nothing spectacular but overall a very good master. You get the UHD benefit in some of the space scenes, rocket takeoffs, etc. Not a bad movie but it didn’t blow me away either. I think for the style of film, it’s an appropriate use of HDR (an enhancement rather than a device). At times it’s a very rich looking film. Some really beautifully rendered, natural scenes.

Gosling does a nice job in this role and this movie is all about Armstrong.

Yeah Sony and Panasonic TVs!
That had to tick off the other manufacturers who supported HDR10+ and not Dolby Vision! Which brings the question if the Disc has all 3 which one is the alpha? Or can we pick thru device settings or disc menu settings?

I've been saying it for a while now... LG and Sony already had DV, they just needed to get the free HDR10+ and kill the competition or force their hand to adopt both. Sony did just that, wish Panasonic would return to the US with a bang!
PS: when you say 3 formats, I assume you are talking about plain old HDR10 as one and not sure if that would ever be better option against the other two Dynamic datas but you never know. I am just happy that going forward, I wont have to pick and choose between TVs, players, receivers and streaming devices and not have to guess which will be supreme in the future.

The Panasonic has HDR10+ as the default over DV, at least that is what I have read.

According to posts on blu-ray.com:
If you have HDR10+ support enabled in the player's menus, it uses HDR10+ in preference to dolby vision
You have to manually disable "HDR10+ support" in the player's menus to access dolby vision.

To me, this is probably the worst way of doing it. It means that if you own a triple-play disc but you also have the vast majority of discs (which let's face it are going to be either "HDR10 with HDR10+" or "HDR10 with dolby vision") you'll miss out on the HDR10+ or the dolby vision (ie, the best at the time) unless you're constantly going in and out of the menu turning HDR10+ support on and off all the time.

Vizio 2018 PQ65 has Full Enhancement Layer profile, and peak nits of 2200 nits. So the PQX at 2900 nits means that Sony and WB content will look pretty nice.

The Sony Z9D 1800 peak nits has been DV capable for at least a year.

Well if SOny keeps to their past history, they will have a manual toggle, like their x700 player has.

Well if SOny keeps to their past history, they will have a manual toggle, like their x700 player has.
Can I be optomistic and propose the idea of putting a simple button on the remote that toggles between the three formats?!
Just like Sony players have one for Audio tracks and subtitles...

Gosling does a nice job in this role and this movie is all about Armstrong.
I watched the UHD version of "First Man" last night and thought the video quality was pretty bad along with a boring movie. I haven't regretted a purchase so much in a long time. One of those movies where I had to use CC because the dialogue was hard to understand and it also had a lot of shaky camera work.
