Sadly though, HDR10+ has not yet come to the KS sets which were the original focus of this thread.

Umm the ks series is older than 2017! The thread title is HDR10+ debuts on Amazon Prime Video and Samsung 2017 UHD TVs. The KS series I believe is 2015 or 2016!

I still stand by what I’ve said in the past - until HDR10+ gets home theater receiver support from companies like Yamaha and Denon, it ain’t happening.

I read yesterday that receiver support was on its way, but I forget where I read it. I get my info from all over the place so I apologize.

Which reminds me of another question (not directly at you). But what happens when a TV such as tcl or hisense that will support both, accesses an Amazon stream that has both formats, such as Jack Ryan. Last week this question was irrelevant, but now it's legitimate.

"No-one knows yet" is the answer to that question :-)

I would expect the Amazon app to only advertise one format in a logo onscreen, and Amazon's programmers will select which one that is.

No worries.

That’s a great question. I can only suppose that you -should- be able to manually select it. How that’s implemented is anyone’s guess.

With the TCL I used briefly as a computer monitor, the TV defaulted to Dolby Vision automatically when presented with content available in both HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I would expect that the same would apply once the HDR10+ compatible TCL and Hisense displays arrive...the TVs will auto-select the high dynamic range format that best suits its capabilities.

Post number one of this thread:

HDR10+ Debuts on Amazon Prime Video & Samsung 2016 + 2017 UHD TVs
HDR10 is evolving. The new HDR10+ standard adds dynamic metadata to the HDR mix and is an open standard. Will it offer picture comparable to Dolby Vision? Click the link to read more: HDR10+ Coming to Amazon Prime Video and 2016 + 2017 Samsung UHD TVs.

Can anyone confirm this? It would defintely mean that HDMI 2.0b AVRs are not capable of passing through HDR10+.
This would be quite a blow to HDR10+: being this late and then not being able to use audio (HDMI 2.0 passthrough) equipment already in place and fully capable of passing DV.

Presumably the AVR needs to pass-thru the vendor specific video data block "90:84:8B" in the EDID which indicates the TV is HDR10+ capable.

Presumably... And that wouldn't mean yet that the actual HDR10+ metadata would also be passed through, if this requirement was met.
But can anyone with different equipment confirm this behaviour? In the end, the EDID should be passed through untouched by most AVRs.

I'm also interested in more feedbacks about this because I have a Sony STR-DN1080 AV receiver which obviously will never get an official HDR10+ firmware update (Sony being on the DV side) so my only hope is that HDR10+ passthrough would work by chance without any firmware update.

I can't test it yet because I have a EU Oppo 203 (beta HDR10+ firmware not available yet) and a 2017 Panasonic TV (HDR10+ firmware not available yet either)

Otherwise the only possible workaround is to use the 4K blu-ray player's dual HDMI output (HDMI1 to the TV and HDMI2 to the AV receiver) but that's annoying.

I upgraded to the dual output UBD-9500 Sammy from the 8500 and 10+ now plays on Beautiful Planet properly. The correct audio is heard thru the Onkyo 787.

Thread has been quiet lately, reporting that a Samsung UBD-9500 (playing amazon prime) feeding directly into a Panasonic FZ-950 will give a large and colourful HDR10+ logo in the TV's info banner. The exact same content on an Amazon fire TV 4K doesnt display the HDR10+ logo on the TV's info, however the developer tools on the fireTV 4K shows HDR10+ as the output.

Thanks for the info. Interesting.

But either both are playing HDR10+ over HDMI, or only one is. Or they are two different "variants" of HDR10+, and the TV can only detect one of them.

And if the TV doesn't detect the FireTV 4K's HDMI signal as being HDR10+ such that it doesn't display the logo, surely this means that the TV is also not decoding it as HDR10+.

I take it that neither yet shows the HDR10+ on the Amazon "info" screen (the screen where you press "play" or "resume from) - as Amazon promised? They're taking their sweet time over it aren't they.

I would speculate, at this point, if the TV doesn't have the HDR10+ banner present it isn't displaying it, regardless of what the fireTV 4k says. Best I could do is try and compare content, but I dont know that I am interested in trying. Its one thing for the devices to have an HDR10+ connection, but another thing if the content is actually graded for it.

You are correct, there is no indication directly from Amazon for HDR10+

At this point I am happy to see a real indication that the TV and blu ray player are working together, next step is HDR10+ content I am interested in.

I assume that many - if not most - people watch Amazon Videos using their TV's internal app, not an HDMI device, and the issue here is that the Panasonic info button is not active in applications (whatever youtube, netflix or amazon) so you most likely won't see the HDR10+ banner anyway.

Not talking about Samsung and Philips TVs which apparently don't display any HDR10+ information, regardless internal application or HDMI source.

There is definitely something hugely wrong with the current HDR10+ implementation compared to Dolby Vision which proudly display it everywhere they can.

Many thanks. Baby steps.

Perhaps
"HDR10+ Will Debut (in the future, not until late 2018 as it turns out) on Amazon Prime Video & Samsung 2018 UHD TVs, but the promised logo won't arrive in Amazon until 2019 or 2020"
...would be more accurate then

Agreed. This is what we've been saying for two years. . Amazon's own help says that there should be a logo there, but there isn't. They refuse to fix it. This is the least of the problems with what is probably the world's worst streaming VOD UI.

Does my KS9000 do the HDR10+ or no?

If they take it back, and not give us an update. I'm going to get rid of my samsung and buy the Quantum X Vizio TV in Spring.

I can get a nice chunk of change for my KS9000 and use it for the vizio which will do both Dolby and HDR10.

Screw Samsung at this point.

Though some titles listed are not quite released as of today, 6 of them are.

Cheers.
