I haven't seen a fee, do you mean the $5 you are paying for the cost of the movie to "gift" it? (assuming it is a $4.99 movie on sale)?
I don't gift UHD movies to myself in iTunes since it doesn't port as UHD to Movies Anywhere. (i.e. if I have a movie in HD already, I can gift UHD to myself ONLY in iTunes, but it stays HD everywhere else).
If they (iTunes) would fix this problem, I would buy (and gift) more movies in iTunes. Instead I use UHD codes at Vudu/MA for 4k digital. Sony is dropping UV on 1/31/19, so I guess the only studio left doing UV rights will be Warner Brothers? That sucks for people who still do Vudu share. I do, so a lot of the movies I get nowadays don't share unless it is Sony/Warner Brothers.
