2 x Buttkicker LFEs in couch
Behringer DSP 3000D (driving buttkickers)
LG OLED C8 TV'
HTPC as a PLEX server
nvidia shield

I rent so no in wall or in ceiling
SMALL lounge room in a unit complex. (approx 30ft x 15ft)

I want to downsize the bookshelf/large centre, bookshelf surrounds to a super small speaker system.

MOVIES 90% MUSIC 10%

I am looking for a 5.1 or 7.1 small speaker system.

Please help me choose

Open to brands, looks not important, but smaller is better.

Budget?

I think that the STR-DN1080 is strictly a 7 channel AVR, so it would support 7.1 (non-Atmos) or 5.1.2 Atmos. Which would you prefer?

Budget is 1.5K

7.1 ot 5.1.2 either or. I would like the ability for the speakers to do both if possible.

i.e where I could use the 2 atmos speakers as the extra rear or height channel as an option or have the ability to buy 2 extra speakers in the package and use them for the 7.1

What's your idea of "small"? Measurements of the largest speaker you would consider ...

It's a VIRTUAL channel unless stated otherwise.

This would be a good place to start. About as small as you should go if you still want really good sound.

The Orbs are spec'd to only go down to 120 Hz. That might be adequate for Atmos effects speakers, but not (IMHO) for the fronts, or even surrounds. Cute, though.

Some AVRs permit both 7.1 and 5.1.2 speaker sets to be connected, and selected using AVR settings, but I don't know whether the STR-DN1080 does.

Of those choices, the QA, by far. That said, I would not invest in a QA subwoofer. Instead, look to get a the Speedwoofer 10 from RSL. More choices in subs if you can spend more than $400.
